Update: Child nutrition reauthorization passes but SNAP cuts must be restored

On December 3rd, 2010, the House reauthorized federal Child Nutrition programs by passing the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307). This bill is expected to be signed by the President. We are very pleased by improvements offered in this bill, but deeply concerned they will be paid for, in part, by cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP - formerly known as food stamps). Cuts to SNAP will cause increased hardship for Oregon families and more children could go hungry. This fact sheet (PDF, 143KB) outlines the impact on families.
