Bill Nye Labs Online: Bill Nye the Science Guy has a website with several different, easy science experiments that you can do at your sites! www.billnye.com and click on "Home Demos." Home Demos includes 40 certified experiments from acid attack, burn rubber to temperature time warp and many others. BOOKS-2-U: This is a great time to have Books-2-U come out to visit your site! They can provide some books for the children to take home, information about the library, and some talks about books. See the contact information in the activity guide above.

Storytellers: This is a great time to have the Portland Storytellers Guild come out and present some stories and maybe even some puppets to your Summer Food site! See the contact information in the activity guide above. Blazers Dancers: What better way to combine music and performance than to have the Blazers Dancers come out and perform to some music! See the contact information in the activity guide above. Movement and Music Area: This website contains music & performance activities from making musical instruments to creative movement activities. This site contains activities and songs that you can use to educate the kids about rhythm, pitch and dynamics, musical instruments, musical notation, and more! Safety Resources
Fire Department Visits: Most Fire Departments will come out to Summer Food sites and bring some fire safety information, some fire safety give-a-ways, and oftentimes even a fire engine! It's best to contact Fire Departments early as they often have very busy schedules. Some contact information for some departments are above in the activity guide. Bicycle Transportation Alliance: The BTA can come out and present Pedestrian Safety and Bicycle Safety education classes to your sites! The classes usually last 20-30 minutes and might even include some free give-a-ways!
Community Nutrition Action Kit: This Kit (for use with grades 3-6, their families and community volunteers) was developed with the Cooperative Extension Service. This Kit contains youth activities, family/caregiver activities and community activities, with guidelines for implementation, reproducible handouts, resource information and references. http://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/Resources/cnak.html
My Pyramid for Kids: Educational materials developed at the elementary school level to help children learn the MyPyramid food guidance system. They are very simple activities that require little to no materials, and the kids would find them fascinating! You can either pick up the Junior Master Gardener Handbook from a bookstore or the library, or you can let OHRTF know that you'd like some handouts, and we can get them to you! Do Lunch Trays Make Great Frisbees?: Teach your site about recycling practices by showing them fun things they can make with their lunch trays! This information is for you to use with the kids at your site, and it details several fun things to do with lunch trays

Students, Seeds, and Soil: A School Gardening Resource Guide which provides links to gardening curriculum and community gardens that are near schools.
