Family Economic Stability

Preserve and expand critical services for people struggling to meet their basic needs during this economic crisis:

1. Restore funding for Employment–Related Day Care (ERDC).

Add $16 million in funding for 2010-2011 so that benefits for two-parent families will not end on June 30 of this year.

2. Make the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program whole.

Add $43 million in funding to preserve the current program and reach more needy families

3. Repeal the Oregon kicker law and create an enhanced rainy day fund.

Revamp the tax system to get rid of the one-of-a-kind kicker that leaves the budget in shambles during recessions and create a rainy day fund to help stabilize funding in Oregon for the future.

4. SB 1044: Expand the Refundable Earned Income Tax Credit.

Increase the value of the Oregon credit to 18% so below-poverty workers can afford food and other needs.

5. Restore a general assistance short-term bridge loan program for individuals with disabilities.

Support Oregonians with disabilities while they pursue Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI).
