SNAP online pilot will increase food access

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has selected seven retailers in seven states for a pilot program designed to allow Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants to purchase their groceries online. We are thrilled that Oregon will be one of the participating pilot states, because we anticipate this will decrease transportation barriers and increase access to food security.

Finding Food Security in Portland

Food insecurity continues to persist in Oregon leaving many struggling to find enough to eat every month. Between 2013 and 2015, Oregon was the only state to see an increase in food insecurity and hunger, even as the national rate declined and Oregon’s economy grew. Over the past year, we connected with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants in the Portland-area to hear about their experiences of food insecurity and their solutions.
